That land development is occurring too quickly...  There should be restrictions on land sold for commercial and residential development... That the county should do more to preserve farmland...

And yet, JCCs’  population growth of 29.4 percent from 2000-2009 was the highest rate in the Hampton Roads area.

In its latest annual Destination Stewardship Index, the National Geographic Society warns travelers the Colonial National Historic Parks are, “'Well-managed' historical sites that evoke key moments in U.S. history, linked by the picturesque Colonial Parkway. But suburban sprawl encroaches.”  The annual ranking appeared in the Traveler magazine's feature of 133 World Iconic Destinations, November/December 2009 issue.

“When you visit a national park, you'll often spend plenty of time just outside the park... in the town or region that geographers call the gateway,” states the 2005 Traveler's article that ranked our historic area in the Facing Trouble category. “A park and its gateway are really a single destination... The way park and gateway interact can make all the difference in the quality of your trip and in the sustainability of the destination.”
